Today's United Way (UWM) focuses on addressing the underlying causes of community issues~why problems exist. Funding direct services programs is important, and United Way of Milford will continue to do that, but to really have an impact on community conditions, we, as a community, need to come together to address the problems at their source. Established in 1957, UWM directly services members of the community on all economic levels. Our funding makes up the difference between what the services cost and what the client can afford to pay. UWM dollars pay for services to help those who work for a living and those who cannot....in hundreds of ways. UWM plays a vital role that tax dollars cannot.
No single group can solve the complex problems that matter most. That is why United Way of Milford works side by side with community leaders, businesses, government and other service organizations to address our community's most pressing needs. Our partners have become leaders in identifying solutions to social issues such as homelessness, early childhood education and mentorship.
By combining the power of people and resources, United Way of Milford helps to build a stronger, safer, healthier and more vibrant community. We address the needs of the poor and the elderly, of children and families, including those who are troubled by virtue of significant physical or psychological challenges. We enable thousands of people in Milford to maintain their independence, experience healthy lifestyles and stay socially involved.
I'd like to thank the Milford community for supporting our efforts. With your help , we can continue to do our best so people don't fall through the safety net. Together we can inspire hope and create opportunities for a better tomorrow. I invite you to be part of the change! |
