My Story: Yessica Trujillo

Yessica Trujillo is a single mother to Emma, age 2. She’s currently going to school and working full time, with plans to start her own business. She began taking Emma to Good Child Development Center a year ago. The Good Child Development Center is one of the 20-plus local organizations the Milford United Way funds every year.

“I was looking for a better school for Emma. The school she was in was not giving her what she needed and it wasn’t helping her advance. So, I found Good Child and it fit everything I needed. This school has done more than any parent could wish for.”

“It’s about keeping a strong face for her. It’s not an easy thing, but I know that it’s going to be worth it in the long run. When she grows up, she’s gonna thank me for it and I know that now it’s not easy, but one day when I’m looking back at everything I’ve done and I know it’s for her, it’s going to be worth it.”

“I want to be the woman that she looks up to. I want to be that woman that she thinks of and says ‘that was my mom.’”

“Dropping Emma off at Good Child gives me a piece of mind because she’s going to be somewhere safe, she’s going to be with teachers that care about her and want her to do well and push her to become a better version of herself. Once I drop her off, I know she’s going to be in good hands, because its like leaving her with my mom and dad.”
